Printed grab-and-go label for a Turkey and Swiss Croissant: 520 calories, price, full ingredient list, Contains milk, egg, wheat, soy, May contain sesame, made and sell-by dates and a QR code Actual printed label
Not just prep labels

You know us for prep labels. The same printer does grab-and-go now.

Most kitchens buy BOH Wiz to stop handwriting date labels on sixth pans. But the sandwiches, salads and parfaits in your cooler need a different label: what's in it, how many calories, and what someone with a food allergy has to watch for. With BOH Wiz, the cook prints both from one prep list. No second system, no second printer, no spreadsheet taped to the wall.

What prints

Every word readable, every time

These are real prints from the BOH Wiz app, not mockups.

Grab and Go label with item name, calories, price, ingredients, allergen statement, made and sell-by dates, net weight and QR code

Grab & Go label

Item name, calories and price up top. The complete ingredient list, heaviest first. A bold Contains line and a May contain line. Made and sell-by dates, net weight, and a QR code that opens the full Nutrition Facts.

Compact Grab and Go label with item name, calories, ingredients, allergen statement, sell-by date and price

Compact Grab & Go label

The same information on the smaller label most kitchens already stock: name, calories, ingredients, allergens, sell-by and price. If an item's ingredient list is too long for it, the app asks for the larger label instead of printing half of it.

Also built in: a Calories + Allergens label and an Allergen Prep label for back-of-house containers. Or lay out your own in the Label Designer.

Phone screen showing the page a label's QR code opens: item name, 520 calories, allergens, ingredients and a full Nutrition Facts panel with percent daily values
QR code on the label

The full Nutrition Facts, one scan away

A grab-and-go label has room for calories, ingredients and allergens, but not a full Nutrition Facts panel. So the label carries a small QR code. A customer points their phone at it and gets the item's full panel: fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, sodium, carbs, fiber, sugars, added sugars and protein, with percent daily values.

Change an item's numbers in the dashboard and the page updates right away. Labels already on the shelf open the new numbers too. No app to download, and nothing about your business shows except the item and your kitchen's name.

How it works

From your menu data to the cooler, in four steps

Send us your data

An ESHA Genesis export, a Freshmarx spreadsheet, an allergen matrix or any Excel or CSV file. Typing items in by hand works too.

We import and check it

Our team loads it and flags anything that looks wrong, like an ingredient list that mentions wheat on an item not marked for wheat.

Cooks tap and print

The item is on the prep list like everything else. Tap it, and the label prints with today's dates and the right allergens.

Every store stays current

Change a recipe once in the dashboard and every location prints the new label. Every change to calories or allergens is logged with who made it and when.

Switching from Freshmarx or ESHA?

You don't have to retype a menu. The Import Nutrition page reads the files those systems already export, shows you what's new and what changed before anything is saved, and exports everything back to a spreadsheet whenever you want, so your data is never stuck with us.

Rather not touch it? Send the file and we do the import for you, at no charge.

An allergen statement that's half printed is worse than none.

So BOH Wiz will not print one.

Never cut off

If the ingredients or the Contains line won't fit, the label doesn't print. The cook sees why and what to do, usually: switch to the larger label.

Never too small to read

Ingredient and allergen text never shrinks below about 1/16 of an inch tall, the minimum type size the FDA uses for packaged food labels.

Never off the edge

Every nutrition layout keeps a margin on all sides, and a layout is never sent to a printer loaded with a different label size.

Allergen matrix

Answer "does this have nuts?" in five seconds

Every item and all nine allergens on one page, filtered by category and printed for the counter or the binder. A second view shows the nutrition numbers for anyone who asks for them in writing.

Staff can also see an item's allergens and ingredients in the app, right where they print, so nobody has to go find a manager.

Who uses it

Built for kitchens that sell food in a package

If your kitchen wraps it, cups it or boxes it for a cooler, a warmer or a pick-up shelf, this is for you. Turn it on only for the organizations that need it. Kitchens that just print prep labels never see it.

The rules, in plain words

What the law asks of grab-and-go labels

Chains with 20 or more locations

Federal menu labeling applies to restaurants and similar retail food businesses with 20 or more locations under the same name. Calories have to be shown for standard menu items, including self-serve and grab-and-go food, and written nutrition information has to be available when a customer asks.

21 CFR 101.11 (eCFR)

Sesame is the ninth major allergen

The FASTER Act made sesame a major food allergen on January 1, 2023, joining milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat and soybeans. If your allergen list still stops at eight, it's out of date.

FDA: Food Allergies

Food you package in your own kitchen

The FDA Food Code expects food packaged in a food establishment to carry its common name, ingredients in descending order by weight, the net quantity, the business name and the major food allergens. Your state's version of the Food Code is what your inspector enforces.

FDA Food Code 2022, section 3-602.11

California chains: written allergen notice

Starting July 1, 2026, chains with 20 or more locations and at least one in California must provide written notice of the nine major allergens in each menu item.

California SB 68 summary (ArentFox Schiff)

A full Nutrition Facts panel is generally not required for food made and sold on site (21 CFR 101.9(j)), which is why the QR code carries it instead. This is a summary, not legal advice. Local health codes can be stricter, so check with your health department.

Nutrition label questions

Do grab-and-go labels need a full Nutrition Facts panel?

Usually not. Under 21 CFR 101.9(j), food made and sold on site, like a sandwich wrapped in your own kitchen, is generally exempt from the full panel. Chains with 20 or more locations still have to post calories on self-serve and grab-and-go food and have written nutrition ready on request (21 CFR 101.11). BOH Wiz prints calories, ingredients and allergens on the label, and a QR code on the label opens the full Nutrition Facts on the customer's phone. Check with your local health department, because local rules can be stricter.

Which allergens does BOH Wiz print?

The nine major food allergens the FDA recognizes: milk, egg, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soy and sesame. Sesame became the ninth on January 1, 2023 under the FASTER Act. You can also mark a separate May contain line for cross-contact.

Can I import nutrition data from Avery Dennison Freshmarx or ESHA Genesis?

Yes. The Import Nutrition page reads ESHA Genesis report exports, Freshmarx spreadsheets, Excel files, CSV files and allergen matrix sheets. Or send us the file and our team imports it for you and checks every item against its ingredients before it reaches a kitchen.

What happens if the ingredients do not fit on the label?

The label does not print. BOH Wiz never cuts off an ingredient list or an allergen statement, and it never shrinks that text below about 1/16 of an inch. If an item's ingredients will not fit, the app tells the cook to switch to a larger label instead.

Can I turn nutrition labels off for kitchens that do not need them?

Yes. Nutrition labels are a setting for each organization. Kitchens that only print prep labels never see the nutrition screens.

Does it print from iPhone, iPad and Android?

Yes. The same BOH Wiz app prints prep, received and nutrition labels on iOS and Android phones and tablets, over Bluetooth, to the printer we ship or a compatible Zebra direct thermal printer.
