Pricing & subscriptions

Does BOH Wiz require a monthly subscription?

No. App, prep-list integration, expiration alerts, and dashboard are free and stay free. The only cost is the printer ($299.99 one-time) and the label refill ($99 per pack of 4,000 labels).

Do I have to sign a contract?

No. No term, no minimum, no early-termination fee — there's nothing to get out of. You buy the printer once and buy labels when you run out, and the printer stays yours whatever happens next. If you're on one of the optional plans, you can cancel any time from the dashboard and you keep it through the period you've already paid for. We'd rather earn the next order than hold you to a signature from last year.

Do you charge per user or per location?

No. Add as many staff devices as you want. Run multiple kitchens off one account. Pricing scales with the labels you print, not with your headcount or footprint.

How much does each label cost?

$99 a pack, 4,000 labels. A kitchen printing 50 a day goes through one pack about every 80 days — roughly $1.24 a day in label cost.

Is there a return policy?

Yes. On a 30-day trial, sending the printer back costs you nothing — we email you a prepaid return label and the card on file is never charged. Bought it outright instead? Full refund minus return shipping. Sealed label packs are returnable; opened rolls are not. Full details.

This is the 30-day trial

Try it in your kitchen for 30 days.

Tell us about your kitchen — about thirty seconds, no card. We ship you a Zebra ZD411 and you print with it for 30 days. Your card is saved as a return guarantee, not charged: send the printer back and we email you a prepaid label, so returning it costs you nothing.

Printer & labels

What printer do you ship?

Zebra ZD411, a direct-thermal label printer that pairs over Bluetooth with iPad, iPhone, or Android tablet. Includes a 1-year warranty.

How big is the printer?

About the footprint of a hardcover book lying flat, and roughly as tall as four of them stacked. The Zebra ZD411 measures 4.5″ wide, 8.6″ deep, and 6″ tall, and weighs 2.2 lb — about a bag of sugar. It takes up a little less counter than half a sheet of printer paper, so it fits on a prep table or a shelf by the pass without giving up a station. Holds label rolls up to 5″ across.

Do I need ink or toner?

No. Direct-thermal printing heats the label material itself. Nothing to refill beyond the label rolls.

Are the labels dissolvable?

Yes. Adhesive breaks down in water in any temperature in under 30 seconds. Wipes off cleanly in the dish pit. FDA-compliant for indirect food contact. More on dissolvable labels.

What size are the labels?

2 inches by 1 inch — standard restaurant prep size. Big enough to read at arm's length, small enough for a souffle cup.

How many labels per pack?

4,000 labels across two rolls.

What if I already own a Zebra?

Skip the printer line item. The app works with most direct-thermal Zebras from the past decade. See compatible models.

Setup, support, and operations

How fast can I get set up?

About 15 minutes from box-open to first print. Plug in printer, install app on tablet, pair over Bluetooth, print a test label. App comes pre-loaded with common prep items.

One-page quick-start guides, printable and ready to tape up in the kitchen: iPhone & iPad (PDF), Android (PDF), Manager website (PDF).

Can I reorder labels easily?

Yes. One-off orders at bohwiz.com/order, or auto-ship at the label auto-ship page. Auto-ship has no monthly fee — you pay only for what ships.

Is there a printer warranty?

Yes. 1-year Zebra manufacturer warranty covering defects. Wear from normal kitchen use is not covered, but real malfunctions are.

Can I use this in a commercial kitchen?

Yes — already in use at Dave & Buster's, TGI Fridays, Chuy's, Biaggi's, and Ancho & Agave kitchens.

What about my data if I cancel?

Every label record, prep-list entry, and printer log is deleted within 30 days. Full privacy policy.

Who builds and supports BOH Wiz?

A solo chef-developer in Chicago. Email and phone both reach the founder. No call queue. More about the team.

How do I print a custom label?

In the app, open the Print tab and tap Print again to open the Custom Label window, type your text, and print. Full steps with pictures: Custom Labels quick guide (PDF).
